The spotted sucker is a member of the sucker family, and has between 8 and 12 rows of dark spots on the back and side of the body. They lack a lateral line and have dusky red fins. Spotted suckers can be found in pools and runs of small to large rivers, and are usually found over gravel or mixed sand and gravel.
