The Okaloosa darter is a member of the perch and darter family. It has a slender body with a short and pointed snout. There is a well-developed frenulum and terminal mouth, along with a large black humeral spot. This species has between five and eight rows of small, dark brown spots and brown bars on the side of the body. The first dorsal fin has a thin, red band. Okaloosa darters live in vegetated, sandy runs of creeks.
