Hard, compact orange to reddish-brown paste
Surface is covered with an off-white to greenish-white slip covered in a thin, transparent lead glaze
Designs are etched into the slip and frequently painted with green or yellow
Decorative motifs on body include floral, anthropomorphic, zoomorphic, and flag designs
Rims often banded with corn, chain, curve, or geometric designs.

|Lister and Lister (1982) classify Romita Plain as an Indigena ware. It is believed that this type is of Native American manufacture, but copying European forms. Romita Sgraffito production may have extended beyond the 16th century.
