Join the Archie Carr Center for Sea Turtle Research (ACCSTR) and the UF Thompson Earth Systems Institute from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 15 to celebrate World Sea Turtle Day at Cypress & Grove Brewing Co.

Topic:

Sea turtles: Scientific adventures, emerging threats, and interspecies interactions

Speakers:

  • Ashley Kusel, ACCSTR: Where can sea turtles take you as a scientist? Ashley will talk about her adventures and lessons learned while studying sea turtles.
  • Rick Herren, Sea Turtle Conservancy: Rick will talk about the remarkable increase of green turtles in Florida in an age of increasing habitat degradation.
  • Renato Bruno, ACCSTR: What happens when jaguars and sea turtles meet? Renato will discuss a rare interaction between the apex predator of neotropical rainforests and a keystone marine megaherbivore.

Schedule:

  • 6:30 p.m. – Event starts! Grab a bite, brew, and mingle with faculty/staff from the Archie Carr Center for Sea Turtle Research, Sea Turtle Conservancy, and the UF Thompson Earth Systems Institute.
  • 7-8 p.m. – Speakers will present and lead audience discussion.
  • 8-8:30 p.m. – Meet the speakers and other representatives from local organizations.
