Position description

The Wilmot Botanical Gardens is now accepting applications for a part-time student garden assistant to help with the outdoor garden maintenance this summer semester (May-August). The scope of work will also include occasional assistance with special events as needed. You will work directly with and report to the Business Manager and Head Gardener. Experience in gardening or horticultural background preferred, but not required.

Job duties will include:

  • Keeping pathways and planting beds clear of garden debris
  • Maintenance of sodded regions to include weeding and raking
  • Maintenance of planting beds to include mulching, planting, and weeding
  • Watering and other plant care as needed
  • Assistance with the set-up and breakdown of conference room furnishings
  • Assistance with special events/rentals in the gardens or conference center
  • Occasional weekend or evening hours (prior notice will be provided)
  • Performing other tasks related to garden maintenance as needed
  • Occasionally performing basic clerical tasks as needed to support staff

Eligibility

This position is open to all University of Florida degree-seeking students registered at least half-time, who are eligible to work on campus, and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average.
