Description

We are looking for individuals to count manatees during the winter at various state parks. Each volunteer will have a park they are assigned to and will report to their park at 7:30 am each week to count manatees using the spring. Volunteers can expect to count from shore (no kayaking/swimming for data collection) and spend about 30 minutes collecting data.

Date & time

Weekly during winter (October 2023-March 2024)

Why should students participate?

This is a citizen science project to better understand how manatees utilize the springs in the Suwannee, Santa Fe, and Ichetucknee rivers. Students will learn about manatees and springs ecology.
