Opportunity Description

Be part of the worldwide City Nature Challenge! Upload photos of plants and animals into the iNaturalist platform during these dates on your next nature walk or even in the comfort of your own yard or neighborhood. Wondering what that plant or animal is? The platform helps you identify your mystery find.

This fun opportunity is going on all around the world. Just go outside, and use a camera or smartphone to take pictures of plants or animals. Make sure that the geolocator of your camera or smartphone is turned on. This way, when you upload the photo into iNaturalist, the photo gets recorded in the city challenge. Any photo in Alachua County taken between April 26-April 29 can be recorded in the challenge.

This global event is organized by the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum Los Angeles County. In Alachua, the City Nature Challenge is organized by the University of Florida Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation IFAS Extension and the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo. Thank you to our community partners: Alachua Conservation Trust, Alachua County Environmental Protection Department, Florida Museum of Natural History, and City of Gainesville Parks & Recreation.
