The TESI team is thrilled to welcome Carla Ruffer as the institute’s new communications manager. An essential part of our mission, the communications manager leads TESI’s strategy for making Earth systems science understandable and relevant to all Floridians. Prior to joining TESI, Carla was the Director of Outreach for the UF Center for European Studies where she created campaigns for K-12 teachers and lifelong learners. In total, she has 18 years of higher education marketing and communications experience, having also previously worked at the University of Tennessee and the Memphis College of Art.
Carla earned her bachelor’s degree in history from Centre College and her master’s degree in Curriculum and Educational Policy Studies from Loyola University Chicago. Inspired by her keen interest in Earth systems topics, she also took part in the Climatebase Fellowship program in 2023.
“With her extensive experience working with educators and planning impactful events, Carla brings a wealth of knowledge that aligns with our mission of communicating about Earth systems science,” said TESI director Megan Ennes. “We are confident that her expertise will greatly enhance our efforts to engage and inspire our community of learners.”
Carla started with TESI in late July and jumped right into her new role, which includes helping manage TESI’s website, social media, internship program, and more. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Carla and be on the lookout for her impact on TESI’s communication efforts in the coming months.
