WHEN: Tuesday – Friday, March 17-20, 2026 TIME: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (T-Th) and 9:00 to 12:00 pm (F)
LOCATION: Jupiter Inlet and Lighthouse, Jupiter, Florida
Attention Elementary School Teachers!
The Scientist in Every Florida School program and the Florida Public Archaeology Network are excited to partner for a Spring Break professional development program entitled, “Your Public Lands at Risk: Archaeological Exploration of the Jupiter Inlet and Lighthouse.” Elementary school teacher participants will attend and experience an incredible, one-of-a-kind 4-day professional development workshop at the archaeological site located at the Jupiter Inlet and Lighthouse.
During the workshop, participants will have an opportunity to explore and excavate as well as collaborate with each other and scientists to develop activities and lessons that connect K-5 science learning standards with the scientific content and research located on the property.

- Develop hands-on activities and lessons for your classroom.
- Gain content expertise that is sure to get your students excited and expose them to STEM topics.
Workshop Eligibility:
- Must be a public-school elementary school teacher (grades K-5) in the upcoming school year within the state of Florida.
- Teachers who teach at schools that receive Title I funds are especially encouraged to apply.
- Must plan to continue teaching at a public school for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Must be able to attend and actively participate in the 4-day teacher workshop.
- Must commit to piloting a lesson in the 2026-2027 school year and provide feedback.
- Must be enthusiastic to learn!
Participant Support:
Participants will receive a $1,000 stipend upon successful completion of the PD, evaluation, and scientist classroom visit as mentioned above. A detailed agenda will be provided to participants prior to travel.

Application Process:
The deadline to apply is January 15, 2026. To allow for maximal collaboration, we are limiting this workshop to 10 elementary school teachers. All applicants will be notified of the status of their application (selected or not) by January 30, 2026.
