Volunteer Discovery: Raccoon ulna!

Dig volunteer Marcia Rentschler found an arm bone (ulna) from a large raccoon this week!

It is very close in size to the extinct giant raccoon known from the early Pleistocene (Blancan) called Procyon megalokolos. It is also the first raccoon fossil (Procyonidae) from Montbrook!
