At the recent meeting of the Society for American Archaeology, Ann Cordell and her coauthors presented the results of a petrographic study on Swift Creek Complicated Stamped pottery. By incorporating systematic analysis of the pottery fabric with elemental analysis and paddle matching, the authors were able to establish when people and paddles were moving across the landscape, as opposed to completed vessels.
