The Calusa Heritage Trail is open to the public!

We are thrilled to announce that the Calusa Heritage Trail is once again open to the public starting November 17! The trail is open daily for self-guided visits from sunrise to sunset. Please follow on-site signage and stay on marked paths.

We are even more thrilled to announce that the portion of the trail leading to Smith Mound is once again open to the public. As a reminder, this portion of the trail was closed following two years of major hurricane events, damage to the extensive tree canopy, and lingering hazards to people (zombie trees!). We are grateful to all who supported the respectful restoration of this special portion of the trail, including the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District, Forestry Resources Ecological Inc, and AmeriCorps!

Please note that the classroom, gift shop, and bathroom facilities will remain closed. As is common with construction, our project at the Randell Research CenterĀ is taking longer than originally anticipated.
