The mating ritual of the Damselfly has long been looked upon with wonder. Some are in awe of the mating “wheel” that is formed midair when two damselflies join. Others are intrigued by the male’s accompaniment of the female as she takes her eggs to the water. What makes this dance of intrigue possible are the “claspers” by which the male grasps the female, to engage her in this act of procreation. Here, these claspers of the male abdomen can be seen in their true form.
