A checklist of the species of amphibians and reptiles found on the University of Florida campus.
This list was compiled based on specimens in U.S. museum collections, observations from iNaturalist and HerpMapper, recent surveys of the Natural Area Teaching Laboratory, and field notes from past and current students.
For each species, it is noted whether the species is native to Florida and whether it currently occurs on the main UF campus in Gainesville. For native species that no longer occur on campus, we have noted the year of last known observation on campus. For non-native species, we have noted the first year of observation on campus. We have also listed the most recently recorded scientific specimen from campus. In several cases, there remain questions about the identification of the species or whether it is still on campus.
We hope that this list will inspire UF students as they look for amphibians and reptiles on campus. Please email us (herpetology@floridamuseum.ufl.edu) with updates and new discoveries of amphibians and reptiles on the UF campus.
