This exhibit was on display September 27, 2008, through January 11, 2009

Our visitors explored the science behind the mushy, oozy, crusty, scaly and other “gross” things that occur in the human body everyday! Based on the children’s book Grossology by Sylvia Branzei, this imaginative, hands-on exhibit showed the good, the bad and the downright ugly about runny noses, body odor, bad breath and many other bodily functions.

Visitors took a “Tour du Nose” to explore 10 nasal features, including how the nose acts as an air filter, a smell sensor and a mucus producer. The pinball game “Gas Attack” showed players how food items cause flatulence with bumpers and bright lights. The “Burp Machine” mimicked the buildup of acid indigestion and finished with a giant belch. “Urine: The Game” taught contestants about the role of the kidneys. Children and adults road on the gastrointestinal slide, climbed a large-scale replica of human skin, and discovered other mysterious ways the body’s biology does what it needs to do to stay healthy.

The Grossology exhibition was developed under the partnership of Science World British Columbia and Advanced Exhibits.
