This exhibit was on display February 4 through September 3, 2012

The dinosaurs were here! Visitors to the Florida Museum took a prehistoric road trip through the Cruisin’ the Fossil Freeway exhibit.

This exhibit featured 30 fossils, including complete skeleton casts of the three-horned triceratops dinosaur, and Albertosaurus, a carnivore that lived about 70 million years ago. Visitor were able to interact directly with the scientists and ask questions about fossils and the work performed in the lab.

This exhibit combined some of the Florida Museum’s paleontology specimens and the fossil-inspired artwork of celebrated artist Ray Troll to explore questions about evolution, extinction and early life on Earth. Troll’s whimsical illustrations including insights from paleontologist Kirk Johnson helped bring to life real fossils such as the horned dinosaur Triceratops horridus, a giant ammonite, a trilobite cluster, a crinoid (sea lily) slab, fossil fish from the world famous Green River Formation and much more.

Cruisin’ the Fossil Freeway was organize by the Burke Museum at the University of Washington. The exhibit is presented locally by the Toomey Foundation for the Natural Sciences, Inc and the Florida Museum Associates Board.
