Our shark research team jumped at the opportunity to join colleagues at a local brewery to ride the wave of Shark Week this year!

Gavin Naylor, director of our Florida Program for Shark Research, was invited to attend this event hosted at Swamp Head Brewery by the UF/IFAS Food and Resource Economics Department (FRE). Guests got to learn about the economic and ecological sides of shark conservation as well as sustainable fisheries practices. Here in Florida, sharks are a common topic and interest heats up along with our summertime temperatures!

The main feature was a short talk from Dr. Andrew Ropicki, Florida Sea Grant Marine Economist and UF/IFAS FRE Assistant Professor. Guests got to mingle with a variety of scientists from the Florida Program for Shark Research (our team!), the Food and Resource Economics Department, and Florida Sea Grant.

Our Florida Program for Shark Research team focuses on shark research, biodiversity and conservation as well as maintains the International Shark Attack File (ISAF).
