GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Museum of Natural History invites students to step outside and explore the science of nature during this year’s summer and field camps, featuring the exhibit “Masters of the Night: The True Story of Bats.”

General registration opens March 15, and Florida Museum members may register early beginning March 1. Pre-registration is required for all camps and is available online at www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/summer-camps.

A new camp inspired by the museum’s featured exhibit, “Masters of the Night,” which opens May 19, will teach students about the ecology and science of bats. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about sharks and minnows, go back in time and explore the world of dinosaurs and learn about the history of ancient Mayans.

Camps are designed for students enrolled in grades 1-8 and run from June 11 to Aug. 3. Summer camps are available for students in grades 1-4, photography camps are for students in grades 5-6 and the Lepidoptera or “Lep Camp” is offered to students in grades 5-8.

“These camps are great for children who enjoy exploring and discovering the world around them,” said museum educator Tiffany Ireland.

Morning, afternoon and full-day sessions are available. Half-day sessions are $125 and $115 for museum members, and Lep Camp is $140 or $130 for museum members. Full-day summer camp sessions are $245 or $220 for museum members, and field camp is $295 or $265 for museum members.

For full-day camps, drop off is between 8 to 8:30 a.m. and pickup is between 4:30 to 5 p.m. The half-day camps can either be in the morning, with pickup at noon, or for the afternoon, with drop-off from 12:30 to 1 p.m.
