Our recent Florida Museum Science Night at Rawlings Elementary school was hands-on science fun for the whole family.

This was the third time we’ve held the Science Night at Rawlings Elementary school and this year we had record breaking attendance! For the first time ever we had attendance in the triple digits with more than 100 people participating!
Kids, parents, and teachers were able to build and launch hoop gliders while learning about air pressure and flight. They learned how to extract strawberry DNA and discovered the building blocks of life. There was a fun fossil matching game and real pottery pieces from an archaeological site for everyone to explore!
This event of course couldn’t have been possible without the support of so many people, behind the scenes, and during the actual event. I want to thank everyone from the Education Team, including our interns, for preparing and delivering activities for the event. Our Visitor Service Department and Security teams for assisting with the logistics of the event and even delivering activities too! All the graduate students that volunteered to participate after I reached out to the Florida Association of Museum Students group (Ashley, Heshan, Emeline, Sarah, Luis, Hyungjoo, etc.), with the support of their advisors like Steve Manchester, Lucas Majure and the Soltis Lab, Collections Managers like Andrea Torvinen and of course the volunteers from the Rotary Club. Thank you all!
