Bill Kuntz headshotBill started working with computers with his father at the age of 10 in Boca Raton, FL (the birthplace of the IBM Personal Computer).  He started with a TRS-80 Model 1, and upgraded to the IBM PC when it came out. Bill has some (not so) fond memories of having to upgrade the computer memory by adding multiple tiny chips to a memory board, but this came in handy in the future.  He came to the University of Florida in 1988 as a freshman studying Industrial and Systems Engineering.  Shortly thereafter, due in large part to his computer experience, he was hired as a student assistant at the Health Science Center Library.

After graduating from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Bill was offered a full time position Coordinator, Computer Applications at the Library,  where he took on increased responsibility, and was hired as the Assistant Director for Library Information Systems.

During his time at the Health Science Center Library, Bill was part of a team that installed the first network in the library, created a computer lab for the students of the six Health Science Center colleges, and won a Davis Productivity award for creating a network based system to allow faculty and staff to search CD-ROM based medical databases from their offices.

In 2005, Bill left the Library and went to work for the Florida Center for Library Automation (FCLA). FCLA was responsible for providing shared computing services to the 11 State University System institutions. While at FCLA he implemented their first help desk software.  He was instrumental in migrating from an IBM AIX server to Linux, and brought VMware virtualization to the organization.  In 2012 FCLA was combined with 3 other organizations to become the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC).  In 2015, Bill became the Information Security Officer for FLVC.

Bill joined the Museum in February 2020.  In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and traveling.
