GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Check out over 100 plant species at the Florida Museum of Natural History’s fall plant sale Friday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University of Florida’s Cultural Plaza.
The two-day event will feature pollinator-friendly native, host and nectar plants like butterfly bush, milkweed, goldenrods and more in addition to some brand-new selections.

“We always try to offer something new or novel each sale and this one is no exception,” said Ryan Fessenden, the Florida Museum’s ‘Butterfly Rainforest’ exhibit manager and plant sale organizer. “We’ll be offering native cactus for the first time along with an old favorite, poppy mallow. As in year’s past, we will offer native wild coffee, but this year we’ll even have a limited supply of true coffee plants should anyone wants to give it a try at home.”
This marks the first Florida Museum fall plant sale since 2022, offering gardeners a way to beautify their homes before the winter.
“Fall often feels like a welcome reprieve from our long summers. We’re excited for people to get back out and really tackle their yards and gardens once more,” Fessenden said.
While the Florida Museum is temporarily closed for a large-scale expansion project, the Harn Museum of Art will open at 10 a.m. for guests’ restroom access during the plant sale. The museum’s online parking lot map indicates the plant pickup area and the parking changes in the Cultural Plaza due to construction.
Attendees will be able to purchase plants on a first-come, first-served basis with cash, credit card or debit card at the outdoor registers.
Additionally, multiple volunteer shifts for those 18 years or older are available during the plant sale. Sign up for a shift here, and receive a discount on plant purchases.
