    : United States: Illinois: Coles County. Fox Ridge State Park, between the Embarras River and IL 130, ca 8 miles S of Charleston; along stairs up to Eagle's Nest. Elev. ca 175 m Mesic deciduous woods along slope with mixture of upland & bottomland species, with Liquidambar, Acer saccharum, Ulmus americana, Quercus alba, Q. rubra, Ostrya virginiana, Sassafras albidum, Cornus florida, Hamamelis virginiana, Hydrangea arborescens, Polystichum acrostichoides, Anemone virginiana, Solidago flexicaulis. Understory shrub 1-2 m tall; occasional throughout park in uplands & bottomlands, most common in disturbed areas where it can be locally abundant. Lat. 3923'45"N Long. 889'31"W.
