    : United States: Alabama: Mobile County. south of Mobile, eastern end of Dauphin Island; Audobon Bird Sanctuary, south off Bienville Boulevard, on Gulf of Mexico; along Gulf Dune Edge Trail near junction with Boardwalk. Sandy trail edge (through pine plantation), with Pinus elliottii, Ilex vomitoria, Pteridium, Verbena, Ambrosia, Hyptis alata, Rubus, Sapium sebiferum, Sporobolus indicus, Paspalum urvillei, Phyla, Ampelopsis. Roots with wintergreen smell (methyl salicylate?); flowers pinkish-purple. Lat. 30 14.92'N Long. 88 5.22'W.
