United States: Florida: Alachua County. Kanapaha Botanical Gardens; The Rock Garden. Open sunny well drained area. Same plant as Davis # 1293 collected 14 Nov 2005 and described as a large plant ca. 5.5 feet tall with leaves mostly erect, some recurved, gray-green, thick at the base and glaucous, small dark reddish spines on the edges. The plant has a paniculate inflorescence ca 20 feet tall but is bent over horizontally at ca 8 feet. The inflorescence has a stalk ca 14 cm thick at the base, ca 30 bracts below the first branch and ca 19 branches, some to 0.9 meters long. Collected from second branch, open flowers only. Flowers with stamens extending ca 4 cm beyond sepals, anthers to 3.2 cm long, pollen yellow, filaments ca 2 mm wide at base and pale green with dark striations, style pale green, stigma pale yellow.
