    : United States: North Carolina: Transylvania County. About 4 mi. SW of Brevard on NE side of intersection of U.S. 64 (Rosman Hwy.) and Whitmire Rd. on top of slope of the hill. Elev. 2236 ft Hardwood forest with shorter pines, plenty of shade. Associated with Pinus strobus, Ilex opaca, Fagus, Carya, tall Quercus, Acer rubrum, Liriodendron tulipifera, Toxicodendron radicans and ferns. Up to 1.2 m tall, leaves non-glaucous beneath. Lat. 35.18687N Long. 82.78960W.
