    : United States: South Carolina: Hampton County. Low shrubs, usually with tough branches; spreading and sprawling, of variable stature, but generally not over 1m tall; foilage leathery, usually deep green and lustrous, but older lvs are duller; acorns produced relatively abundantly, but falling readily, these dark brown to blackish, the best-developed ones plump, others are narrow; with Erianthus strictus, Liatris, Gymnopogon ambiguus, Aristida, Quercus virginiana all below variable canopy of Pinus taeda; both sides of entrance avenue to James Webb Wildlife Center, about 500m SW of Sec Hwy 20; 2.5 mi W of Garnet off Sec Hwy 20; 32.6196N 81.2889W, 75' elev.
