    : United States: South Carolina: Hampton County. Acorns scarce, although most probably all fallen; lowish shrubs, usually neearly protrate/leaning stems, generally below 1m tall, or the sprouts (where previously mowed, and with younger leaves, more whitened beneath) more erect, vigorous; occasional and scattered in thin woods below Pinus taeda, Acer rubrum, Liquidambar, with considerable Myrica cerifera, Lyonia lucida, Gaylussacia, Clethra; fairly damp ground on both sides of Sec Hwy 510 at N end of Lake Warren, just W of Coosawhatchie River and 4 mi SW of downtown Hampton; 32.8409N 81.1738W; 23' elev.
