    : United States: Florida: Alachua County. Cluster fan palm with a short trunk of ca. 12 in. high; 6-7 ft. tall; lvs. 5-6 ft. long, the fiber cloth enclosing the leaf bases with needle-like projections; fr. at base of the plant, hairy. Native of the area, this plant transplanted from the wild. Millhopper Rd., 9 mi. from the University of Fla.
