Along with the many varieties of butterflies in the Butterfly Rainforest, there are also seven different species of finches that cohabitate in the enclosure. These Orange-cheeked Waxbills, Estrilda melpoda, are right at home in the foliage and splashing in the water.

This species originated in West Africa, and its diet consists mainly of seeds, small mealworms and fruit flies. They prefer to live in small family groups or in small flocks in the wild. You’re sure to recognize their high peep calls while visiting the Butterfly Rainforest.
