The Florida Museum of Natural History’s Randell Research Center and the Tribby Arts Center at Shell Point are pleased to offer an interesting and fun lecture series called “The Archaeology, History, and Resilience of southwest Florida” in early 2025. We will welcome experts on the region’s Indigenous and historic maritime heritage and explore how archaeology and history are relevant to our coastal lifeways and resilience today! All are welcome and audience members will have the opportunity to meet the speakers after the lectures.

Adam Knight (Museum Manager, Mound House in Fort Myers Beach) gives a talk entitled, “Rancheros of Southwest Florida.”
This talk will dive into the dynamic and hidden history of the fishing ranchos that once dominated the Southwest Florida coast during the 18th and 19th centuries and their connections to our lives today.
