GAINESVILLE, Fla. — For adults who’ve always wanted to attend science camps and programs offered to students and children – now’s your chance.

The Florida Museum of Natural History will hold new special events for the 18-and-older crowd this spring.

“You don’t have to have a kid with you to come to the museum,” said Florida Museum public programs coordinator Catherine Carey. “We have it all, the social and the science!”

During the first “When Nature Calls: A Live Storytelling Event” April 5 from 6 to 9 p.m., participants can enjoy the museum as well as listen to live, original, first-person storytelling from Guts & Glory GNV. Admission is $12, or $10 to UF students with a valid Gator 1 card. Pre-registration is suggested.

Another new adults-only program, “Science After Dark: Inventors,” provides an opportunity to enjoy innovation stations and an egg drop competition in honor of Leonardo Da Vinci’s birthday. This inventive night is scheduled for April 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $25, or $20 for museum members. Pre-registration is required and closes April 9.

“Grownups just want to have fun at the museum! We want everyone to find his or her passion here,” Carey said.

Another new event, “Bats & Brew,” will be held on May 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitors can toast the newest summer exhibit “Masters of the Night: The True Story of Bats,” opening May 19. The event includes an evening of bat-inspired drinks and snacks while museumgoers learn more about the only true flying mammal. Admission is $35, or $30 for museum members. Pre-registration is required and closes May 21.

SciArt meetups, offered in partnership with Santa Fe College Gallery, will also be held monthly this spring. Each meetup features brief presentations by a guest artist and/or scientist on the monthly topic. The next meetup will be held on April 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. and will feature the waters of Florida. Admission is free but pre-registration is required, as space is limited.
