GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Museum of Natural History is offering extended hours and free film screenings every Friday in July.

As part of the University of Florida’s Creative B program, the museum and its permanent exhibits will remain open until 10 p.m. on Fridays July 7-28. Each night includes a panel discussion at 7 p.m., and the film screening followed by a Q&A session. On July 7 and July 28, the museum will host a reception at 6 p.m.

On July 28, Terry and Oliver Hollers will be at the “Back to the Future” event with their street-legal replica of the DeLorean, the time machine car in the film. They will also participate on the panel.

“It is a unique opportunity to speak to experts in the fields of special effects, science and science fiction,” said Tiffany Ireland, Florida Museum educator. “There is nothing like it in Gainesville.”

In honor of the museum’s 100th anniversary, the films incorporate a time-travel theme. The movies will be “Things to Come” (1936) on July 7, “The Time Machine” (1960) on July 14, “Time After Time” (1979) on July 21 and “Back to the Future” (1985) on July 28.

The topic encourages people to look at the future and think about what the world will be like in 100 years, said Ireland, who will lead the panel discussions.

Other panelists include Terry Harpold, a UF associate professor of English, film and media studies; Tim Lawrence, a concept sculptor and an industrial light & magic creature shop supervisor for Jurassic Park; and Ian Breheny, a Florida Museum exhibit designer.

Creative B, established in 2010, is a summer program for UF students that combines the resources and skills of many university departments. Participants may attend a variety of events including cultural performances and activities.

All exhibits in the museum, including “Frogs! A Chorus of Colors” and the “Butterfly Rainforest,” are free for UF students with a valid Gator 1.
