Large and triangular, with a broad serrated crown; robust, thick, angled or U-shaped root.

Size: 10-80 mm.

Ecology: inhabited tropical to warm-temperate coastal-offshore waters (0-300 m), feeding on dolphins, whales, seals, sea cows, and turtles; estimated to reach 15-20 m in length.

Geological range: Miocene-Pliocene.

Geographic distribution: cosmopolitan, including the Caribbean and Pacific.
