My name is Sophie Westacott and I’m one of four field interns currently digging up fossils here at the Panama Canal for PCP-PIRE. My fellow interns are Adam Bouché, Sonia Sanchez and Jeremy Dunham, and together we make up the sixth “cohort” (as they like to call the groups of seasonal interns here). Our supervisor is Jorge Moreno of Bogotá, who received his master’s from University of Nebraska, Lincoln and specializes in crocodilians. We’re here until May 1st so you’ll be seeing more from us! Here is a photo taken at the canal today. This ship passed by while we were looking for fossil crabs.
