Sociedad Mastozoologica de Panama / Panama Mammal Society (SOMASPA)
The Sociedad Mastozoológica de Panamá (SOMASPA, The Panama Mammal Society) since its creation in year 2000, is a leading Panamanian NGO that focuses on biodiversity ecology and conservation with emphasis in mammals. SOMASPA reach its objectives by means of research, education, and inter-institutional collaboration. SOMASPA's members are Panamanian and foreigner people interested in the study, conservation, and promotion of Panamanian mammals. SOMASPA is represented in the Panama National Biodiversity Committee and in several Mammal Specialists Group (Species Survival Commissions) of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Two main ongoing SOMASPA's projects are the Alto Chagres Biodiversity Monitoring and the Panama Jaguar Ecology and Conservation.
