UF has now offers Two Factor Authentication to faculty and staff, which provides an extra layer of personal protection. Currently, Two Factor Authentication is opt-in for those wanting to benefit from the additional protection, but will eventually become mandatory for all UF employees. Information on UF’s Two Factor Authentication program, also known as 2FA in abbreviation, may be found at https://it.ufl.edu/2fa/

The 2FA website has a 20 second video that demonstrates how the process works. We encourage all faculty and staff to be an early adopter of 2FA to protect themselves from phishing. The pattern of exploits at UF is that people are tricked into sharing their password via email scams, such as below, and then the hackers wait until just before paycheck direct deposit hits. They then sign on to my.ufl.edu with the stolen credentials and change the direct deposit to their own accounts. When this happens, it is very difficult to get your paycheck back. 2FA protects you from this attack.

Instructions on how to enroll are on the https://it.ufl.edu/2fa/ website. If you have any questions, or would like assistance with enrolling, OMT is available to help. Simply place a Help Desk ticket.
