SfB EOLAs you may have heard, Microsoft is retiring the Skype for Business communication application. (This does not include the regular Skype software.) The official end date at the University of Florida for Skype for Business is Sunday, May 9, 2021.

UF Information Technology posted a news article on the topic here:  https://news.it.ufl.edu/infrastructure/deprecation-of-skype-for-business-service/

Regardless whether you are a Windows or MacOS user, on 5/9/21 you will no longer be able to use Skype for Business to chat with your UF colleagues. Any UF meetings that still use Skype for Business will automatically be converted to Microsoft Teams meetings on 5/9/21 as well.

At the request of UF Information Technology, OMT will remove Skype for Business from all Florida Museum machines (both Windows and MacOS) in the coming weeks.  This does not include the regular Skype software.  Stay tuned for more details on this process.

While many individuals at the Florida Museum are well versed in all things Microsoft Teams, if you are new to Teams UF Information Technology has compiled some excellent self-learning resources here:  https://it.ufl.edu/teams/

If after taking in this information you are at all concerned about the transition on Sunday, May 9, 2021, do not hesitate to contact the OMT Support Desk via a Help Desk Request at https://intranet.flmnh.ufl.edu/helpdesktools/Tickets/Create.  As a friendly reminder, please connect to the FLMNH VPN if you’re working remotely and need to create a Help Desk ticket.
