Cultivated plants are integral to civilization.

They are our source of food, oils, spices, medicines, shelter, paper, and many industrial products. They enrich our lives as plantings in our parks and landscape. Certain cultivated species have become problems in our environment. Some species are toxic to humans and animals. Many of our invasive species originated as cultivated plants.

Project Goals:

• Update the names on the cultivated woody collections in the FLMNH/UF Herbarium based on modern plant classification and literature.
• Add the specimen data from the collections to the herbarium’s collection database.
• Image the specimens and integrate those on the Web with the existing collection catalog records.
• Develop a search interface for our Web site to allow users to selectively extract data and generate listings of Florida’s cultivated woody species.
