They are our source of food, oils, spices, medicines, shelter, paper, and many industrial products. They enrich our lives as plantings in our parks and landscape. Certain cultivated species have become problems in our environment. Some species are toxic to humans and animals. Many of our invasive species originated as cultivated plants.
