The University of Florida Herbarium (FLAS), except for the Fungal Collection, is located at 379 Dickinson Hall in the Florida Museum of Natural History on the UF campus.

Dickinson Hall is located at the southwest corner of Museum Road and Newell Dr. The online UF campus map may help you locate Dickinson Hall on the University of Florida campus. Driving directions are provided below.

Please be aware that the Florida Museum’s public exhibits building is located at Powell Hall, ca. 1 miles away from Dickinson Hall. Highway directional signs will direct you to Powell Hall and should not be followed. The Herbarium is located in the Florida Museum of Natural History Research and Collections Building, Dickinson Hall, at the SW corner of Museum Road and Newell Drive. Driving Directions (but see note about parking permits)
Gainesville has a four quadrant grid system of roads. The University Ave. / Main St. intersection is the center point with NW, NE, SE, SW quadrants. Streets, terraces and drives run north and south; avenues, places, lanes and roads run east and west. UF campus extends from University Ave. / NW 13th St. to nearly SW 34th St. / Archer Rd.

From Interstate 75 traveling northbound:
– Take exit 384 (FL SR24, Archer Rd.).
– Turn east (right) and travel ca. 3 miles east on FL SR24 (Archer Rd.).
– Turn north (left) on US 441 (SW 13th St.).
– Go a few blocks to 2nd traffic light and turn west (left) on Museum Rd. (labeled as SW 8th Ave. on right side).
– Follow Museum Road to the next light (Newell Dr.).
– Dickinson Hall is the building with landscaped walls on the SW corner of Museum Rd. and Newell Dr.

From Interstate 75 traveling southbound:
– Take exit 387 (FL SR26, Newberry Rd).
– Turn east (right) and travel ca. 4 miles east on FL SR26 (Newberry Rd.).
– Turn south (right) on US 441 (SW 13th St.) and go several blocks to Museum Rd. (labeled as SW 8th Ave. on left side). – Turn west (right) on Museum Road.
– Follow Museum Road to the next light (Newell Dr.).
– Dickinson Hall is the building with landscaped walls on the SW corner of Museum Rd. and Newell Dr.

From Jacksonville:
– Take I-10 west to US 301 South (exit 343) towards Starke staying on 301 to Waldo – 37.6 miles.
– From Waldo veer right (Gainesville sign) and drive 10 miles southwest on SR 24 (becomes Waldo Road in Gainesville) to the junction of SR 222/NE 39th Avenue.
– Turn west (right) onto SR 222/NE 39th Avenue.
– Follow directions from the Gainesville Airport (below).

From the Gainesville Airport (NW side of town):
– Exit west (right) onto NW 39th Ave go west several miles passing Waldo Rd. (FL SR24), Main Street and NW 6th St. (FL SR20).
– About a mile past NW 6th St. turn south (left) at US 441/NW 13th Street.
– Continue south on NW 13th St. for several miles (avenues will decrease), pass University Ave. (FL SR26) and continue south several blocks to Museum Rd. (labeled as SW 8th Ave. on east (left) side).
– Turn west (right) on Museum Road.
– Follow Museum Road to the next light (Newell Dr.).
– Dickinson Hall is the building with landscaped walls on the SW corner of Museum Rd. and Newell Dr.

From the Gainesville Hilton (W side of UF campus):
– Exit the Hilton on Hull Road. There is a traffic light at Hull Road and SW 34th St.
– Go east on Hull Road. and cross SW 34th St. and enter campus (speed limit is 20mph!).
– Follow Hull Road about 1 mile to Museum Dr. (on the left).
– Turn north (left) on Museum Dr.
– Follow Museum Dr. for a mile or two, it will pass Lake Alice on the right.
– You will go through 3 traffic lights (Gale Lemerand Dr., McCarty/Center Dr., and Newell Dr.). The Museum is on the right before Newell Dr.
– Dickinson Hall is the building with landscaped walls on the SW corner of Museum Rd. and Newell Dr.

Parking

Parking permits are required to park on UF campus during most hours (except for state vehicles*). There are four options:

*Vehicles with official “state vehicle” license plates may park without a permit. You may park these vehicles in the unmarked spaces in orange areas near to Dickinson Hall. These include the parking garage at the NE corner of Newell Dr. and Museum Rd., and the unmarked spaces to the west of Dickinson Hall.

Internet Access and Computing Facilities

UF provides guest wireless access. Staff logins are required to utilize museum computers connected to the internet via ethernet. Staff are not permitted to let others use their account.
