SUMMARY:Science Surprises: Exploring capillary action
DESCRIPTION:Splash into Science with us at the library! Our neat science sessions bring the water cycle into your hands. Perfect for elementary-aged learners looking for something new to do. \nThis four-part series consists of four free\, 45-minute learning sessions aimed at bringing core science concepts to K-8 students in an informal setting. While the four parts of the series are meant to work together\, each session is designed to also offer stand-alone science education. \nIf you miss one session\, you can check the calendar and catch it at a different library branch. \nThese sessions do not require pre-registration but do have limited capacity. \nExploring capillary action \nIn this second session of our Splash into Science series we’ll be learning about something called capillary action\, a special property of water. How does water move up a plant from the roots to the leaves? We’ll learn by watching how water moves through coffee filters and washable markers because of capillary action. \nWe begin each session with an interactive demonstration of a scientific concept\, followed by hands-on activities that can be taken home. \nScience Surprises: Splash into Science\nJoin us for Science Surprises at library branches all around Alachua County! Each month we’ll be tackling different topics at different locations. This month at the High Springs Branch: \nSplash into Science series\nApril 7: Exploring the Water Cycle\nApril 14: Exploring Capillary Action\nApril 21: Exploring Surface Tension\nApril 28: Exploring Density \nThis program is supported by the Children’s Trust of Alachua County.\n \nFlorida Museum on the Go!\nOver the next year\, we’ll be bringing the Florida Museum to branches across the Alachua County Library District as well as many other places out on our community. You never know where the museum will be popping up next. Check our calendar or subscribe to our emails to keep up to date.
