SUMMARY:Plant for Pollinators: Bees and Trees
DESCRIPTION:We’re joining the City of Gainesville at Evergreen Cemetery & Arboretum for a special edition of Plant for Pollinators! We’re bringing our free native plant giveaway and the city is offering a tree giveaway. \nThe Florida Museum’s Daniels Lab researchers will be chatting with guests about the importance of native plants\, wildflowers and more at this family-friendly event! Pollinators are an extremely important part of the ecosystem but you don’t have to be a researcher to help protect them. \nPlanting native flowering plants in your yard\, patio and even in pots can provide vital habitats and food for bees\, butterflies\, moths and other pollinators. To help you get started\, the Daniels Lab team and the City of Gainesville are bringing out FREE plants and trees to help support pollinator conservation. Pick up free plants and plant for pollinators! \n Stick around after the giveaway for a planting demonstration and community tree planting event! \nTree Giveaway\nEach visitor can choose two trees from a variety of species provided by the City of Gainesville\, available on a first come\, first served basis until they’re gone. Species list coming soon! \nPlant Giveaway\nEach visitor can choose one plant from a variety of native pollinator species\, available on a first come\, first served basis until we’re out: \n\nGiant Ironweed\nGarberia\nDune Sunflower\nStarry Rosinweed\nCalico Aster\nLargeflower False Rosemary\nCorkystem Passionflower\nWild Coffee\n\nMore resources\n\nFlorida’s Wildflowers & Butterflies – Learn about the 50 most common wildflowers and butterflies in our state\, and how to plant to best support local pollinators.\nEndangered Butterflies in a Changing Climate – Our online exhibit explores the Miami blue butterfly\, one of the most critically endangered butterfly species in the united States.\nButterfly Research News – read about some of the research and conservation work happening around the Florida Museum like planting milkweeds to create ecological corridors and tracking the argos skipper butterflies in the field.\n\nPop-up Museums\nWe’re heading out into the community to bring the Florida Museum to favorite spots around town while our public exhibits building is closed for the big expansion project.
