The University of Florida Thompson Earth Systems Institute is seeking scientists to serve as science mentors during its first professional development workshop for K-12 teachers. The workshop, titled “Florida’s Connection to the Biosphere,” will take place July 7-12, 2019 at the Florida Museum of Natural History.

Interested UF scientists, lab members and students in a related discipline will be expected to give teacher participants a lab tour and engage in lesson planning and brainstorming sessions. The time commitment for each mentor is approximately 12 hours for the week. Each participating lab will be awarded $1,000.

Science mentors will also have the opportunity to continue working with teachers throughout the school year through the Scientist in Every Florida School project via virtual and in-person classroom visits.
