The striped shiner is part of the minnow, shiner and chub family. This species has large scales and three dark stripes on on upper side of body. Large individuals also have dark crescent patterns along their sides. Striped shiners can be found in sand and gravel bottom pools, as well as in riffles in creeks and small to medium rivers.
