Lateral view of a redeye chub
The redeye chub pictured above was collected in Walton County, Florida in 2014 and is now part of the Florida Museum ichthyology collection, UF 187747. Florida Museum photo by Zachary Randall

The redeye chub is a member of the minnow, shiner and chub family, and has a pinkish-tan top side and a red eye. There is a prominent dark stripe along the side, ending at a large black blotch at the caudal fin base. A black stripe extends around the snout and onto the upper lip, strongly contrasting with the tan to light yellow snout. There is a small barbel at the corner of the slightly subterminal mouth. Redeye chubs can be found in springs, spring-fed creeks and small rivers.
