Ironcolor shiners are members of the minnow, shiner and chub family. They have a black stripe beginning at the mouth that covers the lips and chin, pointed snouts and the inside of the mouth is black. This species can be found in clear, vegetated and sand-bottomed pools and runs of creeks and small rivers.
