The bluestripe shiner is a member of the minnow, shiner and chub family. It has a wide blueish stripe and diamond-shaped scales along the upper side of the body. These shiners have slightly subterminal mouths, and a small black blotch at the tip of the first ray and middle of the caudal fins. This species can be found in sandy runs of small to large rivers.
